About this Project

For this project, you will be responsible for creating a circuit to implement the 555 timer. Your circuit will cause your LED to blink on and off repeatedly. You will need to calculate a few of the missing values from the schematic.

  • Note: we are using a 0.1 uF cap instead of a 0.01 uF cap as indicated on the schematic

Please feel free to give this a look, but just know that the output voltage for the OUT pin wil be slightly less than the input voltage from your battery. This means that whatever resistor you used for the previous project will still work. Feel free to use any of the lower value resistors from the OPS cabinet.

Tips

  • If you need to go back, look at the breadboard diagram from the first lecture and try to find a good place to put your 555 timer in the breadboard such that all 8 pins are isolated to different nodes.
  • DO NOT SOLDER THE 555 TIMER!! USE AN 8 PIN DIP SOCKET!!!
  • You are allowed to use 1 wire at most for the soldering part of this project, but you can use as many as you want for the breadboarding part! Do not use jumper wires, make sure to strip all of your wires.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help, but this project is mostly an exercise to see how well you can follow a schematic and implement it on your board.
  • Make sure we check you off for both the breadboard and soldering parts separately. There are a few people who's breadboards we saw, but did not check off... oops
